About Us

The Cary Tamil School is a non-profit organization registered in the state of North Carolina, USA. It has been founded to create and provide opportunities for our children to enjoy, learn and become fluent in their mother tongue, Tamil.

Being bilingual in today’s society opens doors to many opportunities and has become a must for success. The Tamil society has one of the most vibrant, richest, and oldest cultural traditions in the world. The Tamil language and culture are inextricably intertwined and have evolved over a long period of time. Thus, learning our mother tongue offers insights into our culture, our identity and our history. It also offers perspectives on our ways of thinking and relating to the world. As any language and culture evolves over time, it is open to many influences from other cultures. The effects of these influences are particularly felt in migrant populations when our youngsters seek integration into society where new influences may rapidly outgrow any of the natural influences from their cultural background. This may not necessarily be a negative influence in some domains; however concerns arise when it comes to understanding their cultural identity, personal history and place in this world. To be able to fully appreciate the world, it is important for our youngsters to understand and be fluent (speak, read and write) in their mother tongue, as well as being educated about their history and cultural identity. Didactic lessons that have been conducted in the past is simply not enough – these lessons simply do not convey the intricacies and complexities of the our rich culture. The Cary Tamil School has filled that teaching void and has created a contemporary, interactive and intuitive curriculum that reflects the dynamics of the Tamil population and targets their needs in today’s world.

The Cary Tamil School not only teaches Tamil language but also teaches the rich Tamil culture. It is important that the heritage and tradition of our Tamil culture, language and people is taught to our youngsters in a manner that is easy for them understand and appreciate. We have partnered with Tamil Virtual University, Tamilnadu, India to be able to administer TVU exams to our students. In addition, Cary Tamil School has also earned the North Carolina Wake County Public School System's accreditation for teaching Tamil Language which satisfies the Foreign Language requirements for High School Students.
